Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an essential part of the CARE North Hastings team. CARE NH provides a variety of volunteer opportunities. Please see descriptions of our various volunteer opportunities or contact us for more information.

Drivers

Provide safe and reliable transportation for clients of CARE for medical appointments, grocery shopping or other essential activities. Our volunteer drivers are great listeners, friendly, patient and courteous. Scheduled drives can be local or out of town. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage.

Meals on Wheels Drivers

Drivers pickup and deliver hot and frozen meals to seniors on a scheduled route. Drivers are reimbursed for mileage.

Friendly Visitor

Volunteers visit CARE clients in their homes to provide a friendly and comforting interaction. Friendly Visitors enjoy conversation and socializing and make a difference in the life of a senior who is socially isolated.

“Are You Okay” Callers

Provide a reassurance phone call to clients of CARE North Hastings. Callers check in on client’s well being and provide an opportunity for conversation and report back to CARE staff if there are any concerns.

Thrift Shop Team Member

CARE has two thrift shop locations- Bancroft and Coe Hill. Volunteers provide assistance to customers as well as sort, price and display incoming donations. CARE Thrift Shops play a vital role in our community as all proceeds from the shops are used for CARE North Hastings programs and services.

Home Maintenance Worker

Provide various outdoor maintenance work including:

  • Summer lawn care (grass cutting, weeding, gardening)
  • Winter maintenance (snow plowing, walkway shoveling and sanding)
  • May include other minor duties including wood piling

Home Helpers

Provide various tasks for CARE clients including:

  • Light housekeeping (dusting, vacuuming, kitchen clean up)
  • Laundry
  • Meal preparation
  • Changing bedding
  • Errands and grocery shopping
  • Other approved tasks as indicated by client
